Taggie Blanket ... my VERY FIRST tutorial!

Sew... here it is!  My very first tutorial!

If you can sew a straight line, you can do this project.  They make AMAZING baby gifts for baby showers and are also fun to make for any child two and under (though the intended use is 6-9 months)

What you will need:

  1. sewing machine
  2. thread
  3. scissors
  4. ribbon of various sizes/textures
  5. flannel (1/2 yard or a fat quarter works very well)
  6. straight pins
Supplies

Once you have gathered your supplies, cut out the size rectangle you want for your taggie blanket.  I make mine the size of a fat quarter or a little larger so that they moms can use it as a play mat.

Start with cutting your pieces into two separate pieces and lay one side fabric side up on the floor in front of you.  Lay your ruler on top and get your pins handy.
Front side facing up

Ruler/Ribbon/start pinning

Pin every three inches or so ribbon raw edges at the raw edge of the  fabric

keep on pinning

last side
once you have all your ribbons pinned, put the other side on top, matching right sides together.

Now... start sewing.... leave a three inch hole to be able to flip right side out.

MAKE SURE TO POKE OUT YOUR CORNERS....

Now.. the fun part.. TOP STITCHING.  Hold the ribbon in place that is not sewn (If you only did a three inch hole, you should only have on ribbon not stitched.  Start your top stitching by closing this hole ...

Clip the thread that is showing due to the top stitching... and VOILA... your very own taggie blanket.

Feel free to comment on here and tell me what you liked or what needed further clarification   UP next.... burp cloths and receiving blankets!

There are lots of places that show how to make the taggie blankets... check this one out that shows how to make a star taggie.  Star Taggie Blanket

Sewing.... Sewing... Sewing...

Welcome to my blog!  This blog will be dedicated to crafting, fun food finds, and other helpful advice I have found.  My name is Jan McClellan and I'm a christian first, a wife second, and a mom every other minute of the day.  I do school work when I have the time, and sewing when I'm not doing any of the other tasks I have to do.  I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Richard, and though life has had its up and downs, we are still in love and committed to each other.

A little about my crafting or not so crafting.  I've been sewing since 2009 when my dad bought me a Brother 60-Stitch Computerized Sewing Machine, CS-6000i from Walmart for a birthday/graduation present.  This important for you to know because I will not be using a fancy machine...so if your machine does more things. you can embellish or do things easier than I post.  This is a pretty amazing machine for the cost, however it is no Bernina or Husquvana!

My bible fellowship teacher taught me most of what I know... but I also use books like Nancy Zieman's Sewing A to Z.

I am NOT:

  • good at creating things without directions
  • good at quilting
  • caught up in the details.
I am:
  • good at following directions
  • in love with sewing
  • good at writing directions
With that said:

I'm going to attempt to upload my finds on here and try them out to see if they work.  I'll also discuss new products/patterns/ideas I create myself and show the greatness.. the disasters.. and the in-between.

I'm IN LOVE with Prudentbaby.com!  Their tutorials are amazing and they have such great ideas.  Check them out at Prudentbaby now by clicking the link.

Stay tuned for a tutorial on making taggie blankets .... such a great baby gift ... and I will include the tutorial on how to make some cute burp cloths too!

I've been doing the Prudentbaby towel covers too, but making my own bias tape.  Check these out while you await my uploading of the taggie blankets!

Stay tuned and I'll try to hurry ....

Blessings!  ~Jan
